REF. 01 / Residential
One-Floor Beach House
My idea
A small beach house where every room opens outside. I wanted to see if a 1,000 square foot home could still feel big.
Materials I used
Floor plan software. Wood floors in the bedrooms and living room, tile in the bathroom, and speckled concrete for the porch, patio and terrace.
About this project
This was one of my first full floor plans, so I kept it simple. It has one floor, two bedrooms, one bathroom and a laundry room. The living room and kitchen take up about 408 square feet. I put them on the side with the most windows so they get light all day.
The outdoor space is my favorite part. There is a porch in front, a terrace along the bottom and a patio on the right side. That adds up to over 360 square feet outside. At the beach you spend more time outside than inside, so I think the outdoor space should count as real rooms.
In my first draft the bathroom and laundry were far apart. That meant extra walls and extra pipes. I moved them next to each other behind a short hall and the plan got much cleaner. Next time I would make the entry hall wider.
