REF. 02 / Commercial
Open-Plan Business Building
My idea
An office floor that can change. The private rooms sit on the edges and the middle stays open, so a company can rearrange it later.
Materials I used
Floor plan software. Speckled concrete floors, tile in the bathrooms and kitchenette, and thick walls around the stairs and core.
About this project
For this project I asked how an office could change over time without knocking down walls. My answer was a big open work area of about 4,260 square feet. Everything that can't move, like the bathrooms, kitchenette and storage, sits in one block near the middle.
I lined up four small offices and two meeting rooms along the left and right walls. The offices are about 158 square feet and the meeting rooms are about 313. Putting them on the outside gives them windows, and the desks in the middle still get light.
There are two stairs, one on each side. I added two because a building needs more than one way out in a fire, and it made the plan feel balanced. I also put an accessible bathroom next to the regular one.
The empty box in the middle is space I haven't used yet. I left it that way on purpose. I'm still deciding if it should be a lobby, a meeting room or an elevator.
